Project Description
The project will replace and increase PPC’s existing capacity and involves the construction of a new low-carbon, 1.5-million-ton-a-year integrated cement plant.
As the company will use an existing site, all mining rights and environmental approvals remain in place.
This state-of-the-art plant will be equipped with the latest technology, including a dedicated solar generation system.
PPC's existing plants in the Western Cape will continue to operate during the construction and commissioning of the new plant.
Potential Job Creation
A review of manpower for the new plant is underway and the impact on labour requirements has not been determined yet.
Capital Expenditure
R3-billion.
Planned Start/End Date
The project will be commissioned in 2027.
Latest Developments
The PPC board approved the capital expenditure of R3-billion for the build of the new plant in March this year.
The board also approved PPC’s entering into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Sinoma Overseas Development Company, the largest cement plant manufacturer in the world, in respect of the construction of the plant.
